Supply Chain Bottleneck Analysis for European Developer
The Challenge
A major renewable energy developer needed to secure a reliable supply chain for an offshore wind project with a tight completion deadline. Global demand for key offshore components—heavy steel plates, monopiles, cables, and vessels—was tightening - leading to potential bottlenecks. The client sought expert guidance to assess these risks and develop a strategy to ensure timely delivery of critical components.
Our Approach
Green Ducklings was engaged to conduct a comprehensive supply chain bottleneck analysis. Our task was to map out risks, provide data-driven insights, and recommend actions to help the client secure the necessary components ahead of critical milestones.
Methodology
Market Forecast & Capacity Assessment
We developed a detailed market forecast and capacity analysis for key offshore wind components, such as heavy steel plates, vessels, monopiles, sub-stations, cables, etc. By comparing the demand from future project with the manufacturer’s capacity, we were ablt to identify potential bottlenecks and in both European and APAC markets.
Scenario Modeling
Our team modeled various scenarios — including the supply of nort american projects and offtake from APAC components — evaluating the impact of demand spikes, supply chain delays, and alternative supply options, helping the client understand the effects of different strategies.
Risk Mitigation Recommendations
Pur team pinpointed critical supply chain risks and suggested proactive steps, including early engagement with suppliers and securing long-term agreements.
Outcome
The client was able to secure critical contracts well in advance, ensuring their project remained on track. Our recommendations provided the flexibility to explore alternative supply chains, helping the client manage both cost and timing efficiently.
This case illustrates our ability to help offshore wind developers navigate complex supply chain challenges with strategic, data-driven solutions.
